2010-2011 Scholarship Awards

Welcome to the scholarship page for the USC Alumni Club of West LA! We have worked hard to develop a mission statement that addresses the needs of our community and work to provide awards for students with the following thought in mind:

The USC Alumni Club of West Los Angeles is an organization that promotes an active and engaged Trojan Network whose purpose is to connect local alumni while developing professional, philanthropic, and social relationships with a focus on continually building a scholarship fund for the next generation of Trojan Alumni.

On behalf of the board members and the Club, I encourage you to apply for our scholarships—we have a holistic review process and recognize that there are many ways for individuals to contribute to our campus.

2011-2012 USC Alumni Association Scholarship applications are due December 1! Check back near October to see our application process.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at scholarship@westlatrojans.com.

Zachary Conn
I grew up in Santa Monica, California and was introduced to business at an early age. Both of my parents owned businesses and I learned a great deal about their daily operations. By 15, I had started my own business and a year later I had sold $250,000 of merchandise. I decided to attend USC Marshall School of Business to enhance my skills and learn from experts. I plan on using the skills that I am learning to start an alternative energy company after I graduate. When I am not working, I like to play and coach basketball. I coached a youth basketball team for three years, in which I had some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I also love to travel. I was able to visit China through Marshall Global Leadership Program and plan on studying abroad in Barcelona.

As an LA native, I have enjoyed watching USC continuously beat the Bruins my entire life. But getting to be part of this legacy has been a recent special privilege that I get to boast of daily. Besides being a proud Trojan, I also love Bollywood and Classical Indian dancing, doing community service with Alpha Phi Omega, and eating Peanut Butter Chocolate Ice Cream. I hope to graduate in 2012 with a Communication Degree and a double minor in Anthropology and International Urban Development.

Tim Gerlach – $1,000 Club Merit Award
Tim Gerlach
4th generation Angelino, 3rd generation USC scion, 2nd generation West L.A. resident. While attending Calvary Christian School, I enjoyed years of Little League Baseball and seasonal school sports. This passion led me to continue playing sports during my four years at Oaks Christian High School where I picked up water polo and became captain of the varsity volleyball team. Outside of school, I continued my involvement in Boy Scouts, which culminated with attaining the rank of Eagle. Some highlights of my scouting career include traveling in Europe, attending the World Jamboree in Denmark, and a 14-day backpack in the wilderness of Philmont, New Mexico. During this time, staying involved in high school, I became President of the Cereal Fundraiser Club and Investment Club. I also became an active member of the Math Club. Besides attending regular gatherings with Calvary Church’s youth group, I’ve taken part in several Mexico house builds and local trips to Union Rescue Mission. Striving to make a difference on a much larger scale, I started my own charity, Afrikicks, where we collect, refurbish, and distribute soccer cleats, balls, and equipment to villages and schools in Africa. Locally, my brother and I started a burgeoning apparel printing company, New Groove Apparel. I’ve been playing piano for 13 years. I enjoy surfing and skiing with family and friends. I intend to stay involved with the activities I can and find new ones as I discover all that USC has to offer.
